In Philippians 1:19-26, Paul is between a rock and a hard place. He wouldn’t mind departing this life to be with the Lord, but also knew it was more expedient for the Philippians (and others like them) if he remained. Either way–Paul made it clear–Christ would be honored, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Phil. 1:21).
