“Not In It Alone” (Authentically Adam S2E8)

Authentically Adam Season 2, Episode 8 for Wednesday, October 21, 2020
Do men really hate to ask for help? Is the stereotype of men refusing to stop and ask for directions true? If it is, does such a mindset help men be the men that God intended?

Wayne welcomes Brennan Hooper on this week’s episode and they explore these questions. Using Exodus 18 and the relationship between Moses and Jethro (his father-in-law) as a backdrop the discussion centers around the value of advice and the need for humility to accept advice when it is given. Jethro plainly tells Moses, “you cannot do it alone” (Exodus 18:18). As Brennan points out, Jethro’s wording is reminiscent of God’s reaction to Adam’s position before the creation of Eve (Genesis 2:18). We were not created as men, as husbands, as fathers, or as leaders to do it all by ourselves. We need help and advice. This week’s show offers this reminder.

We want to hear from you!

Credit is given to The Black Suits for the music for Authentically Adam. Three young men who mean a great deal to me wrote and recorded this music in their teenage years. They helped me to be more authentic and spiritual. Shane, Kyle, and Daniel, I love you guys more than you know. Shane, I hope to see you again one day.
