My Thoughts Concerning Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain
- For some time I wanted to speak concerning the topic of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain.
o For those unfamiliar, the two were celebrities who recently committed suicide.
o This opened up a conversation on the subject of suicide.
- Celebrity and Money Cannot Buy Happiness
o We may often get the idea that money will make us happy or celebrity.
o Hopefully this will serve as a reminder that happiness does not come from what we have.
- It Got Us to Talking. Let’s Keep Talking.
o Many messages saying, “If you are feeling depressed, hopeless, or suicidal please reach out and call the suicide hotline.”
- The problem with that statement is that most who feel depressed, hopeless, or suicidal likely will not reach out.
- Hebrews 12:12 — Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
- Context: People ready to commit spiritual suicide needed encouragement and lifting up.
- People need encouragement and lifting up.
- Moment of Transparency (The three times I almost took my own life).
o We need to be open about our struggles.
o I do not do this for pity but to let anyone struggling know, I have been where you are now.
