Argument Two: Only one verse speaks of people suffering from mental illness. Deut. 28:28 speaks of the children of Israel being struck with madness, blindness, and astonishment of heart. Since this is in context with the cursings God would bring to the Israelites, one can infer sin is the only reason one would suffer from mental illness. Answer: · Keep in mind the context of the entire book (5:2-3). God is telling the Law a second time to the children of Israel. · Chapter 28 speaks of the blessings for being faithful (v. 1-2) while there are curses given for those who are unfaithful (15-16). · This was not written to Christians. · Jer. 31:31-34; Heb. 8:7-13 speaks of the covenant changing from that of Moses’s law to that of Christ. Therefore, we are no longer under the covenant given at Sinai. · With that in mind, this verse could not speak of the only reason one would suffer from mental illnessWe want to hear from you!
