“Biblical Examples of Self-Care” (Under the Juniper Tree S15E2)

It is important to see how this is a topic discussed in the Bible. ·         Are there examples of self-care found in the scriptures? ·         The Christ o   And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. (Mar 6:31) §  This is before the feeding of the 5,000. §  The purpose of going to this desert place was to rest a while. §  The disciples did not have a chance so much as for food. o   And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. (Mar 1:35) o   But now even more the report about him went abroad, and great crowds gathered to hear him and to be healed of their infirmities. But he would withdraw to desolate places and pray. (Luk 5:15-16) ·         God o   This is not a Being Who needs self-care but offers it to His creation. o   Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need. (Heb 4:14-16) o   casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (1Pe 5:7) o   Think of the Sabbath Day – it was a day of rest for the children of Israel.
