When discussing the topic of mental health, there is a question that will sometimes escape us. o What does the future hold? o We are not talking about the immediate future but the far distant future. · Hebrews 12:1-2 – Context deals with the persecution of Christians at the time and how many were thinking of leaving the church to return to Judaism. o The writer encourages his readers to one fact: Those earlier mentioned (Heb. 11) have crossed the finish line and are not compared to spectators cheering on others. They, the writer, and the Christ wish for the reader to finish the race strong. o Why? There’s something better than what this life holds for us. · What does this have to do with depression and mental health? o We get beaten down by the problems of life we face (depression, anxiety, or other issues). o We all need to be reminded of the fact that there is something better after this life is over.
