When we try to use the Bible to promote prejudice. ·         False Doctrine Concerning Interracial Marriage Being a Sin. o   Deut. 7:3 o   Here’s the problem with this belief: §  Spoken to the children of Israel. §  Special circumstances behind the statement. §  No one pays attention to v. 2 in reference to this ideal. ·         The Curse of Ham o   Genesis 9:18-27 o   In the past, some cults and even some orthodox Christian groups have taught that black skin was due to the curse on Ham and his descendants. §  Quote from Bruce McConkie from “Apostle of the Mormon Council of 12” in Mormon Doctrine, 1958 — “We know the circumstances under which the posterity of Cain (and later Ham) were cursed with that we call Negroid racial characteristics.” §  “The Golden Age,” The Watchtower, 24, July 1929, 702 – “The curse which Noah pronounced upon Canaan was the origin of the black race.” o   Here are the problems with this belief. §  Nowhere in the Bible does it state that God cursed ANYONE with black skin. §  Canaan, not Ham, was cursed. §  The Bible shows the fulfillment of the curse when Israel defeated and subjugated Canaan (Josh. 9:23; 1 Kings 9:20-21). ·         When we show preference based on racial, sociological, and other reasons. o   James 2:1-4
