“Dangers of Social Media: The Freedom of an Online Presence” (Under the Juniper Tree S11E3)

Under the Juniper Tree Season 11, Episode 3 for Thursday, January 23, 2020
I feel that I need to remind us that there is are some inherent dangers in our usage of social media and these are things of which we should be aware. ·         One is the effect of our online presence. ·         We have the opportunity to post a variety of things. ·         Do we glorify God in our posts? o   Not necessarily whether or not we are promoting the scriptures or teaching while we post but more of a question of “What is the content of your post?” o   Matt. 5:16 ·         Do our posts show more of the world? o   I once heard a preacher say that there are many in this world who would never read the Bible but that Christians may be the only Bible some have the chance to read. o   Php. 4:5 o   Do our posts reflect the world or the Christian spirit? ·         Do we air out dirty laundry online? o   Matt. 18:15 o   Social media is not the place to air out our problems. ·         Do we just say what we want? o   This is not to say that we cannot say what we want. We do have that freedom. o   But we need to be reminded of one fact: We will be judged by the idle words of our mouths (Matt. 12:36).
