“The Atheism Argument” (Under the Juniper Tree S10E2)

Under the Juniper Tree Season 10, Episode 2 for Tuesday, August 27, 2019
The Atheism Argument o   The argument states that counseling and psychiatry have their basis in Atheism ergo, it’s best not to trust their methods. o   There’s some truth to this argument. Some of the counseling models were created by Atheists. o   At the same time, there are many who will make add to this claim by saying that “counselors are taught not to be empathetic,” or “do not care about the patient,” or any that the psychiatrist/counselor is not trained to actually tell the client what is needed to get better.” If that is the case, then the psychiatrist, doctor, or person with the ability to do so would write a prescription for medication without a care. §  The reality is that all three of these are not true. o   Another argument that follows suit is that religion is viewed as something which is harmful to the client. §  Again, this is false. Most counseling theories focus on helping the client use religion to best benefit them. §  This DOES NOT INCLUDE telling them to abandon religion. ·         The reality is that there are many Christian counselors.
