“What’s the Big Deal About Lying?” Part 2
Show Notes:
- Lying hurts the church.
- The lies of false teachers hurt the church
- Rom. 1:25 – who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
- 1 Tim. 4:2 – speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron,
- 1 John 2:21 – I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
- 1 John 2:27 – But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.
- Some have deceived themselves and others to think that they are faithful, but they are not.
- James 1:22 – But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
- 1 John 1:6 – If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
- 1 John 1:10 – If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
- 1 John 2:4 – He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
- 1 John 4:20 – If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
- It is a form of persecution.
- Mat. 5:11 – Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.
- 2 Thes. 2:9, 11 – The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders …. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie.

- Lying hurts your reputation.
- Mat. 5:37 – But let your “Yes’ be “Yes,’ and your “No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.
- Prov. 22:1 – A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches,
Loving favor rather than silver and gold. - Paul often appealed to his integrity to the truth as a reason to listen to what he said.
- 2 Cor. 11:31 – The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying.
- cf. Rom. 9:1; 1 Tim. 2:7; Gal. 1:20; Rom. 3:4).
- Lying will cost you your soul.
- Rev. 21:8 – But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
- Rev. 21:27 – But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
- Rev. 22:15 – But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.
- 1 Tim. 1:10 – for fornicators, for sodomites, for kidnappers, for liars, for perjurers, and if there is any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine
