“One Man Didn’t” (Ready to Worship S8E11)

Ready to Worship Season 8, Episode 11 for Friday, December 7, 2018

On this season of Ready to Worship, we are sitting at the foot of the cross to prepare our minds for worship. This week, we want to begin with an anonymous poem entitled, One Man Didn’t.

Three men were tried for crimes against humanity.

Two men committed crimes.

One man didn’t.

Three men were given government trials.

Two men had fair trials.

One man didn’t.

Three men were whipped and beaten.

Two men had it coming.

One man didn’t.

Three men were given crosses to carry.

Two men earned their crosses.

One man didn’t.

Three men were mocked and spit at along the way.

Two men likely cursed and spit back.

One man didn’t.

Three men were nailed to crosses.

Two men deserved it.

One man didn’t.

Three men agonized over their abandonment.

Two men had reason to be abandoned.

One man didn’t.

Three men talked while hanging on their crosses.

Two men argued.

One man didn’t.

Three men knew death was coming.

Two men resisted.

One man didn’t.

One.

Two.

Three men died on three crosses.

Three days later.

Two men remained in their graves.

One man didn’t.

Each Lord’s day, we come together because of the one man who didn’t. We come together because of the one man who didn’t deserve to be stripped, beaten, and publicly shamed. We come together because of the one man who didn’t do anything wrong and who didn’t deserve to die. We come together because of the one man who didn’t curse those who cursed Him, mock those who mocked Him, or strike those who struck Him. In a letter to suffering saints, Peter noted each of these things. To servants who often suffered wrongly, Peter wrote, “Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward. For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed” (1 Pet. 2:18-24).

As we get ready to worship this week, let’s remember the one man who didn’t. Let’s remember the one man who didn’t deserve what happened to Him. Let’s remember the one man who didn’t stay down.  Let’s remember the one man who didn’t deliver Himself that He might deliver us. It is this man who is our reason for gathering.

We want to hear from you!
