“The How of Worship” (Ready to Worship S11E17)

Ready to Worship Season 11, Episode 17 for Friday, May 15, 2020
In this season of Ready to Worship, we are investigating worship. To investigate worship we are asking the who, what, when, where, why, and how questions. In this installment of our study, we are asking the how question. The how question is easily answered. Jesus declared, “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him  must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23-24).  Twice, Jesus said that we must worship “in spirit and in truth.” True worship has two parts – spirit and truth. In future studies, we will flesh the two parts out. Our focus now is solely on the fact that there are two parts. To offer only one of these two parts is to fall short of what God demands and deserves in our worship.  One side is not more important than the other. Spirit is not more important than truth and truth is not more important than spirit. God has joined them together and we must not put them asunder (Mt. 19:6). We must observe all things that are commanded us (Mt. 28:20). We must wholly follow the Lord (Josh. 14:8-9, 14).  Sadly, some argue that sincerity  is all that matters. Others believe that as long as the five specified acts are present that true worship has occured. Both positions come up short. It is not one or the other. It is both. As we get ready to worship this week, lets’s make sure that it is how God wants.  Let’s make sure that it is in spirit and in truth.

We want to hear from you!
