“A Spirit of Unity” (Ready to Worship S10E10)

Ready to Worship Season 10, Episode 10 for Friday, November 1, 2019
This season on Ready to Worship, we are examining the attitude or spirit that we are to have in worship. In this installment of our study, we are considering a spirit of unity. In the long ago, the sweet psalmist David declared,
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”

Psalm 133:1
For sure, unity is a wonderful thing. If you doubt this, just think about the opposite of unity- division, silence, anger, etc. A spirit of unity is conducive to worship. Division is not. Dislike for a brother or sister makes it extremely hard for us to focus on God. The visible brother or sister draws our attention away from the invisible God. John, the apostle of love, boldly declared, “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also” (1 John 4:20-21). God wants His children to get along. He wants us to be of the same mind and judgment (Phil. 1:27). Any problems that we have with a brother or a sister need to be worked out so that they don’t interfere with our worship. Jesus declared, “Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift” (Mt. 5:23-24). If we are at odds with our brother or sister, it is hard to draw near to our Father. Just think of the elder brother in the Parable of the Prodigal Son (Lk. 15:25-28). As we get ready to worship this week, let’s strive to do so with a spirit of unity. If problems exist with a brother or sister, let’s repair them so that they don’t hinder our worship.

We want to hear from you!
