Paul’s encouragement for Timothy’s ministry comes to an apex in 2 Timothy 4:1-8. Paul had run the course and fought the good fight. Now it was Timothy’s turn. Timothy’s responsibility was to preach the God-breathed word he was familiar with, to not be like the teachers of those who have itching ears, and to do the work of an evangelist to fulfill his ministry. If Timothy stays the course like Paul, he’s told, he can have the same reward. We also have a ministry to fulfill. We also have a crown that can be ours.
