Bitterness can set in when we feel like we have been treated unfairly. Naomi was bitter because she felt the Lord had brought calamity upon her. She was so bitter, she even wanted to change her name from Naomi (“Pleasant”) to Mara (“Bitter”). Though Naomi’s story may make it seem like God had forsaken her, nothing could be further from the truth.
