“Boys Will Be Boys” (Authentically Adam S3E3)

Host: Wayne Jones  |  Released Wednesday, January 27, 2021
We have all heard the phrase “boys will be boys.” Depending on the context, that phrase could be used to simply explain boyish behavior or it could be used to explain away hurtful behavior. Either way, we should not be in the business of making excuses for the shortcomings of others, but rather we should be interested in that person’s maturity and growth.

This week we investigate and revisit an ancient text that highlights some “boys will be boys” behavior in the leadership of Israel. Joshua 22 tells the story of an almost ciivil that comes right on the heels of great, significant victories for the nation as a whole. Israel (having never been known for having consistent faithfulness or powerful qualified leader from one generation to the next) exhibits great weakness in our text. It may just be Israel being Israel, but it really was so much more than that.

Do you jump to conclusions and hold others in suspicion? Do you have trouble celebrating peace or do you go looking for the next fight? If so, that is not just men being men. Such reactions need to be corrected by remembering what God made us to be and what he calls us to do.

We want to hear from you!

Credit is given to The Black Suits for the music for Authentically Adam. Three young men who mean a great deal to me wrote and recorded this music in their teenage years. They helped me to be more authentic and spiritual. Shane, Kyle, and Daniel, I love you guys more than you know. Shane, I hope to see you again one day.
