“Putting Yourself in the Shows of Another” (Under the Juniper Tree S14E2)

In the last episode, we looked somewhat at empathy. Today, we examine the idea of putting yourself in the shoes of another. The idea requires us to stop thinking of how we would deal with a situation at hand and look at it through the eyes of another. This isn’t always easy because our first tendency is to look at it through our own eyes. 1. We must remember that are not the expert of another person’s life – only our own.

o Think of David after the death of his and Bathsheba’s first child (2Sa 12:15-23).

2. Avoid stereotypes 3. Want to easily put yourself in the shoes of another? Ask them. Christ has been in our shoes. (Heb 4:15; 1 John 2:1; 1 Tim. 2:5).
