Show Notes:

  • The resurrection of Jesus is a central part of our salvation.
  • The REALITY of the Resurrection
    • 1 Cor. 15:1-11
    • The reality of the resurrection is confirmed:
      • By the eye-witnesses (15:5-8)
        • The Roman guards felt the earthquake, and saw the angel roll away the stone (Mat. 28:4)
        • Mary Magdalene, Mary (mother of James), Salome, and Joanna saw the empty tomb (Mark 16:6)
        • Mary Magdalene was the first to see the risen Lord (Mark 16:9; John 20:11-18)
        • He appeared to the rest of the women (probably after Mary Magdalene, Mat. 28:9-10)
        • Peter and John saw the empty tomb (John 20:1-10)
        • Later, John writes, “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life … that which we have seen and heard we declare to you…” (1 John 1:1-3).
      • By the historical evidence.
        • The tomb is empty! While some have tried to explain away the resurrection of Christ, we know the Bible teaches that God raised Him from the dead (Acts 2:32)!
    • We have much competent, credible evidence that Jesus lives!
  • The REASON of the Resurrection
    • 1 Cor. 15:12-19
    • That Jesus lives is the basis of Christianity (Luke 24:46-47).
    • Think of the consequences of no resurrection:
      • If there is no resurrection, then a lie has been preached (15:14-15).
      • If there is no resurrection, then our faith is empty (15:14).
      • If there is no resurrection, then there is no forgiveness of sins (15:17).
      • If there is no resurrection, then there is no hope (15:18-19).
      • If there is no resurrection, then Christians are pitiful, deceived people (15:19).
    • God’s people will ultimately win the victory over death!
    • 1 Corinthians 15:57
