Episode Transcript

In the eleventh chapter of Hebrews, we read, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Heb. 11:6). To come to God and to please Him, we must believe three key things.
First, we must believe that God is. It is logical to reach this conclusion. Earlier in the book of Hebrews, the inspired writer argued: “For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God” (Heb. 3:4).  We all understand that even the simplest house had a builder. How much more must this be true of the complicated world in which we live?
Second, we must believe that God is a rewarder. The fact that God is a rewarder speaks of God’s nature. God is good. He rewards those who diligently seek Him. God made man with free-will. When man uses that free-will wisely, he is blessed. When he doesn’t, he has no one to blame but himself.  In the long ago, Moses wrote, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live” (Deut. 30:19).
Third, we must believe that God is findable. Please note the inspired writer’s reference to God being a rewarder of those who “diligently seek him. ” The clear implication is that God can be found. Otherwise, how does God reward? Does God merely reward the futile attempts of men to find Him? As a child, it wasn’t very rewarding to search for someone in Hide and Seek and never find them. However, it was very rewarding when you did! Of course, the Bible teaches explicitly that we can find God. Through Jeremiah, God declared. “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jer. 29:13; cf. Mt. 7:7-8).
The foundation of worship is three-fold. First, we must believe that God is. Second, we must believe that God is good. Third, we must believe that God is findable.
