Light from the Past 007: “New Testament Canon”

Episode #007
For Tuesday, September 30, 2014
“New Testament Canon”

HOST: Dewayne Bryant

Show Notes:

  • In this episode, Dewayne discusses the books of the New Testament, and the process by which authentic books were accepted and illegitimate books rejected.

Notable Quote:

  • “By the middle of the fourth century, the New Testament canon as we know it today is established. So whenever we hear about “lost” or “missing” books of the Bible, there’s no need to give it a lot of thought.”

Texts for Reflection:

  • Matthew 7:15 – “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.”

  • 2 Timothy 4:2-4 – “Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.”

  • Titus 2:1 – “But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.”

  • 1 John 1:1 – “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life”
